Q. Do I buy Home office or NIJ?

A. Both types of body armour have their own unique advantages and disadvantages, and it is important to ensure that you buy the right protection level for your requirements.

Home office body armour is genrally deisgned for UK based use. This includes protection standards such as Knife, handgun and spike, with added upgrades for rifles and shotguns. These levels of protection are very high to ensure maximum protection in all situations, which can make the vest bulkier and more expensive over NIJ standards. These are typically used to meet strick requirements for councils, government and law enforcement in the UK, and are sometimes adopted by security teams.

NIJ is the international standard for body armour. Typically designed for bullet protection, these vests naturally include a level of stab protection. They are flexible, thin and lightweight compared to Home office vests, allowing for increased manouverability.

Q. Do you have female sizes?

A. VestGuard body armour is manufactured using a flexible soft armour solution which over time will contour to the female figure. Whilst our vests are unisex, vestguard has the faciltities to manufacture female hard armour plates to improve the comfort for the user. Please contact us for more information.

Q. Do you have female sizes?

Q. Do VestGuard vests offer side protection?

A. Yes. Our body armour panels are designed with side 'wings' that will meet at the side and provide discreet underarm hand gun protection if the right size is chosen. Side armour upgrade plates can be purchased to increase the protection level for rifle fire. (availble on tactical units)

Please ensure that you choose the right size body armour to ensure the internal protection meets at the sides. If the body armour does not fit correctly, you may not be fully protected.

Q. Do VestGuard vests offer side protection?

Q. I received my armour and it does not cover down to my belt. Why?

Body armour is designed to protect vital organs: heart, lungs, liver etc. Body armour should sit on, or one inch above or below, your belly button to provide optimal protection. Any lower than this and it will impeed your ability to sit down properly, become uncomfortable and may ride up your body.

Whilst we can fit you from head to toe in armour, we want our customers to be able to move freely. If body armour is uncomfortable to wear, you may be reluctant to wear it when it may be most needed. We want to minimise discomfort and ensure you remain protected. Tactical options allow the groin panel to be deployed when out of the vehicle which will provide additional protection.

Q. I received my armour and it does not cover down to my belt. Why?

Q. Is VestGuard certified? and what does it mean?

A. VestGard is a certified manufacturer of body armour to Home Office and NIJ standards. This means that many of our products have been approved by the offical organisation that sets the requirements that all manufacturers should follow. We follow strict guidlines to ensure we comply with the terms of certification.

Certification ensures the company has undergone offical testing to ensure products and solutions meet the standards. It is important that products are either certified or independently tested by a certified test house and not just manufacturered to the standard.

VestGuard undergoes regular product compliance testing using off the shelf stock to provide proof that our products are fit for purpose. Along with customer testing and over ten years of products in use with security, police and military forces across the world, our range is tried and tested to perform.

You can identify if a company is NIJ or Home office certified by looking online or requesting a copy of their certification and testing.
